Gathering in May

I can hardly believe that May has come to a close.  The beginning of the month flew by as we were anticipating a trip to Arkansas for Amelia's graduation from college.  The trip itself took us through the middle of the month, and the remainder has been a little fuzzy.  I always have a time of let-down after a vacation/big event during which things are disjointed.  Stewart and I also started another cycle of Whole30 immediately upon arriving home from our trip, so I've been throwing most of my energies into keeping things interesting in the kitchen.

Thanks to Cheryl at Thinking About Home for hosting this link-up to help me think ahead AND reflect on the moments that might otherwise be forgotten.

Making clarified butter with my aunt.  Good stuff!

Finally got our wind chime hung outside.

Babysitting for the grands while Mommy is at school and Daddy is at work.

Thinking of friends while I'm pulling weeds in the flower bed.

Wondering if I would get to see my peonies bloom since they were just about to as we were leaving for vacation.

Putting my mad drawing skills to good use to keep the twins amused on our long car ride.  You can read all about that HERE.

They waited to bloom so that I could see them in their full glory!

Attempting to root a new African violet after the plant got some sort of nasty infestation.

The one and only strawberry we got from our garden.  Hubby and I shared it.  It was so sweet that it left us hoping for a bumper crop next year!

Well, that's about it, friends.  I'm ready for June now.  And now for a shameless plug...
Join me on the first Monday of each month for MAKE IT NEW MONDAY when I host a linky party.  What's that about?  Find out HERE!  Search my blog for other Make It New Monday posts.  Hope to see you back here on Monday, June 2, 2014 for a solution for limited storage space in the bathroom!

  1. A blur. That's a good way to describe May (or all the months these days?), for it passed so quickly! And yours was full of big happenings! A l-o-n-g car trip with two-year-old twins is a "big happening" by anyone's standards. A college graduation is another. Congratulations to Amelia...and to all of you!

I love that you and Stewart shared the bounty of your strawberry crop! And I'm glad your peonies waited for you!

Thanks for "gathering" with me again this month!

(Now I'm putting on my thinking cap for Make It New Monday...I'll be back next week!)

  2. I love your little strawberry. I am glad you shared. It looks like the wild ones that we sometimes found when I was a child. And, so pleased to see the wind chime hanging. I have been trying to think of something I could do to qualify for "make it new Monday" but haven't come up with anything. Maybe in July - Claire's cloth book if I get busy on it again.

    1. I'm so glad I had room for that wind chime in my suitcase, Aunt Betty. We enjoy hearing it :)

  3. Your peonies are a beautiful shade and I'm glad they waited for you. The beginning of your month was certainly a time to celebrate--a college graduation! I wonder how many tiny bites you each got out of half of that small (or so it looks) strawberry. Hope for next year!

    1. It was a tiny, tiny strawberry. I wouldn't even say that we each got a bite. We each got a taste! :)

  4. Why only one strawberry? Did birds eat the others? A new patch? The peonies are such a deep shade of pink...really beautiful. I am afraid the cold nights here have stunted mine. On the other hand, the cold nights have preserved the lilacs and they go on and on. Hmmmm...I may just have something to share tomorrow...

    1. You guessed it, Vee. A new patch! I heard that if you pinch off the blooms the first year that they will be healthier and more full the following year. I obviously missed one :-) Enjoy your lilacs. The ones around here were done too quickly for my preference!

  5. Your peonies are beautiful, I used to have a pretty pink one that just didn't come back one year. A long car trip with twins...sounds like fun to me :)

  6. what a lovely month :) My peonies bloomed for the very first time last month! they are one of my favorites, so fragrant and old-fashioned. The strawberry crop in my neck of the woods was on the puny side. We are savoring them while they last - how sweet that you shared your one berry with your husband.

Stopping by via the Gathering party at Cheryl's!

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Linda. Old-fashioned flowers are my favorites, too. The remind me of the farm where we lived when I was a child and of my grandmother. Hopefully next year we will each have a strawberry of our own ;)
