This quote comes from Beth Moore's study of Esther. Esther obeyed her uncle's instructions even though it could mean her immediate execution, but God used her obedience to save an entire nation of people. When God authors our change in circumstances we can have peace that the Creator of the entire universe is working for our ultimate good, and we can rest in Him. When we do things our own way, the unintended consequences leave us scrambling for a cover up. Ask me how I know...
So many times he demonstrates that His ways are higher than our ways, His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. "Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!"
ReplyDeleteAnd yet we (I) question His work in my life...as if my ideas were better? Really?
I agree, Cheryl. It is faith in self (pride) that drives us to devise our own plan. It is faith in God (humility) that allows us to access the grace that He has provided in abundance. And I am never more aware of this than when He reminds me of this in hindsight. Ouch!
DeleteI stand in agreement with you both (Cheryl & Joanne) Even as I write this I am floored that I actually think I know better than the Lord. How humbling it is to see my pitiful solutions compared to His great wisdom. (I loved the Esther study- I am working through her Believing God study now)
ReplyDeleteWe are such short-sighted creatures. Let us know how the "Believing God" study goes.
